If Colorado's children are going to become productive members of our community, they will need access to a quality K-12 public education. Our schools need to focus on teaching the skills and that will allow Colorado's children to be competitive in a global economy, rather than focusing on rote memorization and test-taking. I will hold our schools to a high standard and see that schools work to close current achievement gaps while fighting to give school districts the flexibility and resources they need to accomplish the job for their unique communities.
Colorado's children need a first class higher education system. For many years, Colorado's higher education system has been strip-mined of resources, leading to higher tuition rates and decreased financial aid. I will support the investment in our higher education system not only to protect the future of our children, but also to ensure the future prosperity of our economy.
Colorado's families suffer from a lack of affordable heath care. I will seek creative solutions to the state's health care crisis that benefit ordinary citizens, not just big pharmaceutical and insurance companies. Colorado's families deserve leadership that works to promote a vibrant economy to provide good jobs that pay a living wage. I will work to ensure that Colorado is able to attract quality businesses and clean industry to Colorado.
Colorado's environment is beautiful and fragile. I will fight to protect and add to our accessible open spaces, as well as protecting the purity of our wilderness areas. I will support the investment in cleaner, renewable energy sources, encouraging Colorado to become a leader in attracting new businesses and industries, which will promote our economy while protecting the quality of our air and water.
